Architectural Social Charity Program: ¡°Hope-ABBSchool¡±

Donation of Architectural Design for ¡°ABBSmallSchool¡± is an important part of series activities of ABB2006, and the press conference of this activity will take place at 10:00 a.m. on 26th April, 2006, in ChinaArchitecturalCultureCenter.
The shortage of educational resources is in a serious situation in poor areas of China and other developing countries in the world. According to conservative statistics, there are 27 millions dropouts in China at present .The rate of dilapidated housing in rural primary and middle schools is 6.6% , which takes 81% of the total dilapidated housing of primary and middle schools all over China. There are still over 1 million children cannot go to school because of housing shortage in western areas. After the ¡°Hope Project¡± has been carried out in 1989, the donation for it has accumulated to 2.7 billion RMB, which helped the construction of 120 thousands HopeSchools. This project has also changed 2.7millions dropouts¡¯ lives by ¡°One-to-One¡± helping form. However, there are still 27 millions dropouts in China at present. In the contemporary world, social responsibility and social participation has become a common consensus among international excellent architects. Owing to this situation, this project is initiated by the Organizing Committee of ABB2006.
Donation of Architectural Design for ¡°ABBSmallSchool¡± is one of the large-scaled public welfare activities organized by the organizing committee of ABB2006. It will mobilize international architects to donate their architectural designs for ¡°ABBSmallSchool¡± around the world. Their works will be donated to poor areas in China and other developing countries. Meanwhile, through the creation of art and technology, this activity will realize the fusion between architecture and nature, architecture and social responsibility.
On the press conference, the organizing committee will also invite personages from relative fields to make specific introduction the purpose of ABB2006, the original intention of this activity, the construction ideas of poor area primary schools, the situation of Chinese rural education and the situation of resource distribution. Besides, relative news about ABB2006 and excellent design cases of poor area¡¯s primary schools will be released and interpreted on the press conference.
Background:
Architectural Biennial Beijing is an international large-scaled series exhibition of architectural culture industry which is held every two years. It¡¯s a large-scaled theme culture activity with rich content to keep track of the time, and it is also outstanding in practicality and serviceability.
ABB2006 is scheduled on September 26to October 6, 2006 in Beijing. The international architects, artists and organizations of city planning, architectural design and architecture will come to attend this grand conference at invitation.
The main theme of ABB2006 is ¡°City and Architecture: Resources Efficiency and Environment Friendliness¡±. It will focus on the connections between urban planning and architectural design, with extensive discussion on experiences in city planning, small town planning, resource saving, environment protecting, hospital planning and world inhabitation The participants will explore policies and solutions for the construction of cities and towns to meet the objectives of saving resources and making environment friendly; and they look forward the developments of cities in the 21st century internationally and constructively. Donation of Architectural Design for ¡°ABBSmallSchool¡± is a large-scaled public welfare activity organized by the organizing committee of ABB2006.
